Prime Therapeutics: Seroquel XR® Processing Update - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas

Effective November 1st 2016

Dear Valued Provider,

Effective November 01, 2016, generic Seroquel XR (quetiapine extended-release) will become available to the market. Quetiapine extended-release will not be covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kansas (BCBSKS) until multiple generic manufacturers become available or the price decreases. The innovator product, Seroquel XR, will continue to be covered*.

Action Required

If Participating Pharmacies receive a prescription for quetiapine extended-release, they will need to submit brand name Seroquel XR in order to receive a paid claim. If a prescription for quetiapine extended-release is submitted instead of brand name Seroquel XR, the claim will reject at point-of-sale (POS) with the following reject message:

  • NCPDP Reject Code 70: "Prod/Service Not Covered"
  • Secondary Message: "Generic not covered, Seroquel XR covered. Please resubmit for brand. Seroquel XR pays at Tier 1 benefit"

For questions regarding coverage of Seroquel XR, please refer Covered Persons to the Customer Service number on the back of their BCBSKS ID card.

OptumRx: Four Script Limit Prior Authorizations for Former Health Alliance

Effective November 1st 2016

Effective 11/01/2016, select Health Alliance Connect (Managed Medicaid) members will transition to traditional Medicaid or another managed care organization. Health Alliance has not had a four prescription limit in place for Health Alliance Connect members. Members who transition to traditional Medicaid will have the four prescription limit implemented. HFS wants pharmacies to be aware that they can initiate prior authorization for former Health Alliance Connect members who reach the four prescription limit. Please inform HFS that the patient is a former Health Alliance Connect member to help expedite these requests.
